He speaks about why profession steering is so important from his private experiences that lead him to take up profession counseling as a occupation whereas in an interview with Amarjeet Sharma Amarjeet Sharma (AS): Please brief us about your Educational background. Vina y: Well; that’s an attention-grabbing story! I joined engineering without figuring out what it entails. After the first 12 months, realized I was a misfit there. I was endorsed by my dad to finish my Mechanical Engineering course. I did. Then, I turned my again on engineering and began my profession as a sales professional. AS: What has your time as a Career Counselor meant to you personally and why? Vinay: It has meant I actually have impacted many tender lives from turning into misfits. Personally, it has been a very contented work and a satisfying journey. I really feel that it’s my calling and I am totally having fun with what I am doing. AS: How did you get into Career Counseling? What fascinated you into Career Counseling? Vinay: When I was working within the company world, I was keenly observing my colleagues. Many (over eighty five%) of them felt that work was a chore and actually needed to be doing something else. They held on, nearly going via the motions; merely for s urvival sake. This lead me to the world of Career Counseling. Fortunately, India has opened up its economic system and with that there were a plethora of jobs available in many various sectors. I believed that this was the proper time to guide the students to right Career choices in line with their Personality and Aptitude. AS: Which instruments do you employ for guiding careers? Vinay: Psychometric Tools are the primary instruments which I use. Apart from this, a typical IQ test or an Aptitude check is used. Have a question regarding your career ? AS: Why do you think it’s important for college students and parents to endure Career Counseling together? Vinay: This is the day of specialist. The days of mediocrity is useless and buried. Long stay mediocrity!!! For anybody to achieve success, that person needs to decide on a profession, and will really feel like “Fish taking to water!” If he enjoys the profession, then he's sure to place that additional effort willingly to excel in that sector. At the other end of the spectrum, Parents want to understand each youngster, nay everybody of us is completely different. We are born with sure traits and we also have a definite persona. So, choosing a profession for his or her ward in line with his traits and character will to a large extent ensure the ward’s success. Merely copying others success is a recipe’ for mediocrity, struggle and possibly even catastrophe. AS: What are the highest 3-5 expertise you need to have to turn out to be an effective Career Counselor? Vinay: AS : What is your advice for newbies, who're looking at constructing a career in Career Counseling business? Vinay: This industry is at a really nascent state in our country. But, it is a dawn industry. It will develop exponentially within the next 10 years or so. Hence, a career in this trade is a superb alternative. But, please examine whether or not you've the traits and sufficient information to turn into an expert in Career Counseling. A couple of questions you need to ask yourself; “Am I a people’s person (love meeting and interacting with completely different people)?” and “Do I get a kick out of helping and guiding others?” If the solutions to above questions is yes; then you are welcome. AS: There are many new career choices which have come up over the last decade which was not heard of before, how do you stay up to date on the newest trends in Career? Vinay:Newspapers, Internet, films, TV, Books and so on are sources of rich information. This has helped me stay abre ast of the developments in several segments. Still, I believe that I must catch up slightly more. AS: Which are the Career Information sources (i.e. newsletters/ blogs/ web sites/ apps) you go to frequently? Vinay: There are too many to record here. But the Jobsites like Naukri.com, Monster.com and so on; Career Sites like CareerGuide.com and fb pages of various consultancies are my major sources. Of course, being in touch with my students also provides me an insight into the nuances and changes of the corporate world. AS: Share the names of three individuals you respect when it comes to Career Counseling? Vinay: Have a question relating to your profession ?
